City Hall Is Site of Clash Over Khalil Gibran

The justification of this school, the Kahlil Gibran "International" Academy, does not sustain careful analysis. As many institutions currently instruct students in Arabic in high school and college, as well as private night courses such as analogs to the Learning Annex, there is no need for the questionable curricula and agendae of the KGIA. As a tax-payer, I strongly object to my tax dollars going toward such a troubling precedent. All parallel language and culture schools are transparent, their curricula and study design are all readily available for scrutiny. This school has damning problems, a chaotic administrative turnover resembling a revolving-door assembly, refuses Freedom of Information Law requests, and is an unwarranted, even somewhat 'creepy,' intrusion into the hallowed public school tradition in this state and city. As several observers in recent literature have requested, I suggest an immediate closing of this problematic poseur in the school system, Assign our tax monies to better-run and nonthreatening mainstream schools.

Sincerely,

Paul A. Ticks, 155 W 68, NYC 10023 - 212 580 8723
