As a UNIS parent for many years now, I felt the article's comments mis-represented UNIS somewhat. The school's strong point is its International Bacculaureate program and its many fine teachers both in the Junior School and in the high school (or Tutorial House as it's called) in addition to the Middle School teacher mentioned in the column.

Another strong point--UNIS is probably one of the only private schools in NYC that has a truly natural diversity of race and ethnicity as opposed to the other schools mentioned in this article which work hard to have 'students of color.' That comes quite naturally at UNIS where kids come from everywhere in the world.

I was surprised to even see UNIS included in this article because in the past couple years the administration, in concert with its UN-directed Board, has decided to become an international school in NYC as opposed to a private NYC school with an international identity. The school is now around 50% UN families thus diluting some of the specialness of what had been a highly unique educational experience for families in NYC.
