I think Hollinger hit the nail on the head concerning the three-way trade talks. It was totally one-sided. Kidd is still a solid guard at 34, and is currently better then Devin Harris. But how good will he be next season (at age 35-36)? Harris is ten years younger and has been only marginally worse than Kidd this season. It doesn't make that much sense for the mavs, unless they just want two years of name recognition, which Kidd offers. What about Outlaw being better than Harris? I'm not sure I agree with John, but let me point out that Outlaw is a year and a half younger than Harris and yet he is putting up better numbers than Harris was at the same age. Patrick, what do you mean Outlaw is too slow to guard SF? Outlaw is actually a rather quick SF, infact Outlaw is incredibly athletic, which is why he was drafted out of high school (drafted on potential in other words). Also, why it is true that Portland has too many contracts, it doesn't make sense for them (or any team) to give talented players away in one-sided trade deals (unless they are just trying to free cap space, which is a non-factor for portland). Also, clearly they won't be in lottery land this year as their talent is playing up to its potential - so I don't see the logic in your point.
