I would like to laugh about the Extra Honor "Best Cafeteria" for Calhoun but it disguises a serious issue. While the menu regularly has interesting offerings I find my child usually does not eat the food. This is not unusual among my child's friends. For a recent lunch the entrees were turkey meatloaf and salmon teriyaki. Personally, I find the salmon appealing but as a parent I don't think salmon is an easy item to get children to eat even if you cover it with a sugary teriyaki glaze. As for turkey meatloaf that comes under the category of mystery meat.

I've noticed a typical behavior of children stock piling items from the breakfast and then pulling them out of their back packs at lunch or the alternative of going hungry for the afternoon and then eating junk food after school.

You would think the school would be a little more in touch with the needs of its students. While the parent appealing menu sounds nice it would be better if the children had nutrition they would actually eat. Of course, the school could simply send out an internet survey to all parents to get feedback but taking advice from parents is the last thing a school like Calhoun would ever do.
