Spitzer's Abortion 'Wrongs'

Submitted by Spitzer's Abortion 'Wrongs', Feb 5, 2008 13:27

Hi Alicia --

I am not sure i follow your argument.

From what I understand freedom of religion applies to people and not to institutions. I am sympathetic to exempting a solo practitioner from doing abortions or solo practitioner pharmacist from having to dispense the morning after pill. However, I don't see how it applies to corporations such as hospitals that are chartered by the state. I think that those who work for those organizations who oppose abortion should be provided with reasonable accomodation, but the patients right to abortion should govern here.

Now, if a religious org. that sponsers a hospital feels that they can no longer sponser an entity that performs abortions, then they are free to sever their support.

All the best
