The issue of Olmert reflects the much larger issue of governance in Israel. As pointed out in a recent article in Azure, the structure of government in Israel has---since its establishment by Ben Gurion---mitigated against rationality by permitting even the smallest voting block powers that no other democratic government in the world would tolerate. Unless the various sectors of Israeli society finally come to their senses, I see no way for the country to survive the overwhelming onslaughts it is receiving from the Muslim world, onslaughts that are increasingly being condoned by the non-muslim world.
