'Hyped Up' Fans Close Businesses

It indeed was a madhouse in there, but I think what got the cops attention was outside. It was mostly fueled by a couple of girls who gathered a Mardi Gras style crowd around them (it was Fat Tuesday) for a flashing exhibition. Massive amounts of people drinking openly out on the sidewalk-beer from the bar and their own liquor. When that died down, the girls were still outside encouraging patrons from the upstairs portion of the bar to pour beer down on them. If you think the madness outside consisted of bouncing a beach ball around, you're really missing out!

The downstairs bar had only ONE bartender (dressed cutely in a wonderwoman outfit) for the massive crowd. You know there will be 1 million people around. How do you not get extra help? There was no door control or anything. At one point, approximately 1:00, a flood of NYPD stormed the bar for a show of force. That sent several dozens of underage patrons scrambling out, really thinning out the place. They were being served indiscriminantly, so it's inaccurate to paint a picture of rowdy fans overwhelming the place. The place was happy to be overwhelmed for as long as they could avoid a crackdown. But they continued to serve, and I don't know what the cops said to the bar owner, but it didn't shut the place down. It was approximately half an hour later that someone began clearing the joint out. I had fun--$6 pitchers! Don't know for sure if that order was internal, or from the cops, or whether there are massive fines involved. But Mudville 9 down the block was running a crowded, festive, allbeit much more controlled and professional post-game service.
