'Hyped Up' Fans Close Businesses

This is not to excuse those who behaved badly, but I've seen similar problems at previous parades. It seems to me that part of the problem is that the traditional parade route is just too short to comfortably accommodate all who want to be there and, as a result, there is a lot of needless confusion and frustration. I think it would be helpful if, among other things, they greatly lengthened the parade route -- say, started at the South Street Seaport, went down (very wide Water Street) and THEN up Broadway to City Hall. (The parade route would be kind of "U' shaped, with emergency vehicles having access along the rivers and in the center.) Also, past parades (and, from I've read, this one too) would have greatly benefitted from signs identifying who some of the lesser known people (team staff members, grounds crew, etc.) were. Also -- very important -- it's important that honorees be in "high" vehicles. (In past years, they've had honorees in low slung cars, and it was impossible to see them unless you were right at the curb.)
