Islam's Silent Majority

Alicia,

Developing our own oil deposits would do little harm to the Saudis, other than perhaps temporarily lowering the price of oil. Oil is fungible, a commodity on the world market. The Saudis will get the same price for their oil whether they sell it to America or China. Even if we drill in ANWR, the Saudis will get their money. China and India are increasing the demand for oil, which means the Saudis will increase their income and expand their covert foreign policy of violent religious imperialism.

The state of Saudi Arabia must be destroyed and replaced by a more moderate state. The Shiites of the east, where most of the oil fields are, might appreciate their own state, free of the bigotry of Saudi Sunni Wahhabi rule. The relatively more moderate inhabitants of Jiddah on the west coast may make better custodians of Mecca and Medina and put the income from pilgrims to better use.
