I agree with Ms. Furchtgott-Roth that it is impossible for the GOP to retain the White House without ensuring that all Republicans support John McCain. I wish to add, however, that the vote of independent-minded Democrats is of equal importance. Not all Democrats feel comfortable with candidates who underestimate the seriousness of the war on terror or whose admiration for increased government spending is an almost knee-jerk response for solving difficult social problems. I am a life-long Democrat who, troubled by the direction the Democratic Party has taken, find myself drawn to Senator McCain. Now that Senator McCain is apparently on the way to the nomination, the GOP must not forget that votes like mine are critical to the senator's success in November.
