Lopez Torres and the Democrats

the democratic party adopted the super-delegate rules after the carter years to ensure that never again would an incompetent outsider ride to the nomination on the basis of the yokel vote or the fanatical activitst vote. to suggest that the super-delegates are somehow morally required to vote lock step with the voters in the primaries is to miss the entire point of super-delegates. if the party really believes that the super-delegates are merely at the convention as a reward for years of service to the party, then the rules should be changed to eliminate them, but as long as the rules are in place, only those ignorant of history would suggest that tnose delegates ought not exercise independent judgment.
