Instead of plumbing for the specificity of 'the sheriff' analogy Mark Steyn, spot on with an early lament, should have gone for the generic category of acting. What with Tony Blair gone to perform another role on another stage, the Americans cannot but make their own grinning, substance free, saccharine alternative. You delete the word 'change', and 'hope' and Obama's speechless. It's the Shakespearean posture, the delusion of power, and the look that linger.
