What To Expect From Maine and Perez in 2008

Submitted by los mets fan, Feb 12, 2008 21:37

Great breakdown! But lets not under sell Perez's importance to the future of the Mets. The team is likely going to hit a major transition in the next two years. The Amazins' are still reliant on older players. Johan, Maine, and Perez are a solid 1-3 for the next several years. While its possible that the Mets may start to spend even more in salary in the coming years (though likely still not as much as the Bombers), there are only so many quality young arms in the league. Pitching still wins championships. Its great to dream about mega-contracts for Sabathia, but its unlikely the Mets will bring in another #1. We can only hope that Pelfrey develops into the type of pitcher Perez already has shown himself to be.
