A war on "terrorism" is like saying the World War II was a war against V-2 missiles or a war against blitzkreigs. Global Jihad, which dreams of establishing a medieval Caliphate over the whole planet, uses terrorism as one of the weapons in its arsenal. Its other lethal tools are: using women as baby factories in order to unbalance nations' demographics, propaganda via mass media, brainwashing students in universities around the world (including the USA) with so-called Middle East experts in Chairs established with Arab oil money, buying UN officials with petrodollars, using both mosques and self-hating Christian clergy to dismantle Christianity around the world, and last but certainly not least the twin viruses of hatred for America and hatred for Israel and the Jews. Thus, I agree with the General's statement of having to look at the very large picture. However, if the West abandons Iraq, its perceived retreat will fuel a quantum leap in world Jihadist terrorism. This has been proven to be the case time after time, whether it be Russia's withdrawal from Afghanistan, Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon and Gaza, or the USA's withdrawal from Somalia. In each instance, the ranks of Islamofascists swelled dramatically.

The war against Jihadism can be won, but only by openly identifying the real enemy and facing him down on all the fronts listed above. No military offensive in the field can carry the day if the folks back home are busy surrendering the farm.
