What To Expect From Maine and Perez in 2008

Submitted by Jonathan Cohen, Feb 13, 2008 10:15

Interesting article, but outside of the game, the day before the season ended. I thought Maine was a solid #3, but nothing spectacular. Perez is a truly gifted pitcher, I think his stuff is light years ahead of what we saw from Maine, except for his last start.

Now, if you are telling me that's the real John Maine, then the comparison is alot closer. I think Perez plays around too much, his release point, the lag in his leg kick that drives "The Jacket" crazy. If he could tone himself and stay in the moment and within himself like John Maine does, I think he can be a solid #2 or #1. Though I admit the #1 looks like a stretch giving his mental makeup. Maybe having Santana & Pedro tutoring him this year will pay off huge dividends.
