Senate Okays Telecom Immunity in Secret Surveillance

Submitted by Christine, Feb 15, 2008 10:10

I heard on the radio that a woman who was naturalized 40 YEARS AGO had her cell phone and laptop confiscated at the airport, and heavily questioned after a 3-week stay in the Middle East, where she is from. The agents wanted to know the names and addresses of who she saw during her trip, as well as that of her daughter. They also erased the recent calls list on her cell phone, and investigated her laptop. Now she fears for her own safety and her family's. Since when is this considered protection??? We should be questioning what the Bush Administration wants to do with this bill, what "liberties" they themselves will try to take. The Administration claims they can search anyone who they suppose to have links to terrorists; however, they don't have to disclose how they know about these links! While I understand they want to protect their methods of gaining intelligence, the Administration needs to be held accountable for its actions.
