The Obama Cult: Not for Everyone

Submitted by Rod Foote, Feb 20, 2008 10:15

Kudos to Ms. Skanazy on another well-written column…though I don't quite agree. My thoughts: like Pinder's comments, I don't think Senator Obama is the messiah and, if eventually elected President, no doubt he'll wish he were considering the mess he will have inherited. But, from my 70 year old, registered Republican point of view, I think, overall, he is the best candidate and will be good for the country. The kid does inspire in sort of a Kennedy-esque way and would appear to be of decent character, the mistakes of youth notwithstanding. Senator Clinton who, though very intelligent-and, yes, experienced- and a hard worker, brings far too much baggage vis-à-vis her husband. No matter what, right or wrong, he will always be a lightning rod and disruptive. Senator McCain, no doubt a decent man, is, unfortunately, mired too deep in failed Republican policies and seems to be somewhat stuck in the past. "His actions, it would appear, do not inspire confidence" as Lady Bracknell would have said. Senator Obama would seem to offer hope for a change that will bring this country back to some form of respectability. Now, no doubt he will make his share of rookie screw-ups but I sincerely doubt he could even come close to the errors of President Bush and the Bush League. One other thought on Senator Clinton: she is one of the most involved senators I have ever seen for this state. Like Senator Schumer, there's hardly been a section of the state she hasn't visited and assisted, something I never saw with our other senators. I'd hate to lose her voice in the senate.
