Unmanned Spy Planes To Patrol U.S. Border

Submitted by miscellaneous, Feb 20, 2008 15:14

I'm sorry to read all the reports of people complaining about UAVs. In the comments of this article I have read various responses that are obviously posted by uninformed people. I say this because I have worked in the unmanned aviation field a number of years. Knowing the capibilities of diffrent systems and their weaknesses I can strongly argue on almost everything posted on this article. (Lasers?) Their are numerous sensors on UAVs that would benifiet CBP not just lasers. (conflicting information about Predator capabilities) If you dont now how the system works then stop bashing it. (Unmanned drones mixing with air traffic over Texas) It's not that a UAS can't operate in airspace with manned aircraft. They do it all the time in war zones without any conflict. The only way that AOPA or FAA will let a UAV fly in civil airspace is in restricted areas. The FAA hasn't dealt with UAV in civil airspace before so they don't know how to handle it. Ask the military they have been doing it for years with no problems. (Sign of the Times) Obviously if border patrol is a govenorment orginization then they would have all the paper work and permission to do what it is they do before it is done. Also, Why would we need permission from Mexico to watch our own border. That's like asking them if we can put CBP officers on the border. People, all i am saying is read up on or ask the right people about things before you post a comment on something you only have half the facts on.
