We saw the cell phone portion of the Documentary Fortnight last night -- it was great! On the one hand it was hard to discern some of the videos from traditional film; on the other, the "up close and personal" aspect was obviously cell phone material. The subject matters and filming techniques varied widely. One of the most interesting films was a doc on Woody Guthrie (by Jeff Peixoto) -- all hand-drawn moving pictures and subtitles with Woody playing in the background. The film transported you through Woody's life not only through its narrative but also in its filming. The Native American features were moving; I am sure Michael David Little will be heard from again. Ed Lachman's contribution was a good opener -- a crowd-pleasing quickie about a bear in the woods. The curating -- props to Ms. Rashkin and Ms. Berger -- was astute and the program was overall quite a delight.
