You need to do your homework. I also eat what I kill, except varmints. Wild meat tastes better, and is better for you.
The Second Amendment actually has its basis in old English common law. The theory was that every able-bodied man maintain such weapons as he could for the defense home, family, and country. That way an army could be raised quickly when needed. They never envisioned firearms. Didn't need to.
Our founding fathers didn't envision the firearms we have today. They didn't need to. They envisioned a foreign invader as well as what they were dealing with. An oppressive government. That's why they wrote the Bill of Rights - to give the control of the government to the people.
Legally owned firearms, even fully-automatic ones, pose less danger than automobiles. It's the illegaly possessed weapons we need to worry about. We already have plenty laws to deal with this. We have major enforcement issues in this country.
I live in an urban area, and I reserve the right to protect my home and family from anyone with evil intent. The Bill of Rights gives me the right/responsiblility to protect my country the same way. By owning firearms!
When we had break-ins in the neighborhood, the local police advised us to let our dogs bark for a while when we put them out. "Fine". I thought, "But what about the break-ins?". My shotguns will be there long before the police.
Statisically, an armed "victim" stops the crime without firing a shot in the majority of cases.
Why not teach our kids to read, write, do math, and have proper respect for firearms? Give them good citizenship skills, respect for themselves and others, and give them alternatives to gangs and other negative behavior.
