Columnist Sues City Over Press Passes
in response to reader comment: Only Jon seems to grasp the point of the matter...

freedom of the press (and speech, etc...) is so fundamental to democracy and human rights that it is not up to any governing agency, or court, or judge, or legislature to make any decision at all. the only thing a governing agency can do is some basic public safety by not allowing a thousand people in a building that can only hold 100 and so on. only statutes to prevent fire hazards, streets being blocked, and fights/riots etc...

you cannot have a democracy without freedom of press, religion, speech, and freedom to gather. it is fundamental to what makes america america. no compromise, at all, ever.
