Lawrence and his Arabs did not enter Damascus "just in front of General Allenby's..", but rather entered the south gate of the city as Australian Light Horse troops were passing out through the north gate. Lawrence sold his story, but the real fighting was done by infantry, cavalry, and artillery of the British and French armies, colonial, and Dominion troops.

The Arabs were so despised by the Australians that they defended Turkish troops from them so that they could surrender their arms to European forces.
