Obama's Brain Trust Taking Shape

Submitted by Ray Warren, Feb 22, 2008 07:04

It would appear that Barak Obama may be nominated to represent the Democratic party for the Presidency of the United States. There have been many disparaging comments made against Senator Obama which frankly fall on racism, i.e., that he is a Muslim and swore on a Quran when he entered the Senate. This was in part to scare the Jewish community. However, there is one element that Obama has refused to repudiate and distance himself from and which is the cause for considerable anxiety in the Jewish community. That is, his refusal to disavow his association with his current church and spiritual advisor, Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. In 2007, prior to launching his campaign, Minister Wright awarded the church's prestigious Empowerment Award to a man who 'epitomizes greatness'. That man is Louis Farrakhan. In America there is NO person who epitomizes racism and anti-Semitism as Farrakhan. He has denigrated the Holocaust by blaming the Jews, he has vilified the Jewish people, and the list goes on and on…And while Obama has clearly condemned Farrakhan, he maintains close ties to a church and minister who has no regrets for an association with an anti-Semite. In Obama's Church magazine, The Trumpeter (www.trumpetmag.com/pdf/nov_dec_magazines.pdf), Wright refers to Farrakhan as "one of the 20th and 21st century giants", "who brings a perspective that is thoughtful and honest", praises Farrakhan for his "integrity and honesty", and as "an unforgettable force, a catalyst for change." Obama fails to recognize the hurt, sorrow, and distrust felt in the Jewish community. Regardless of what Farrakhan has accomplished, ANY positive recognition amplifies the prestige of this anti-Semite. I pity Obama who has failed to connect the dots. Where is Obama's sense of outrage? Will Obama's spiritual advisor be at his side at his inauguration? A few years ago the US Senate began to deny confirmation of nominated Federal judges who were members of social clubs that denied membership to Blacks, despite the nominees' condemnation of such racist practices. Jews should be no less vigilant toward Obama.
