Plenty To Be Proud Of

Submitted by John K. Daniel, Feb 23, 2008 06:22

I am honestly not sure where to begin this particular comment. I was somewhat awed by Mrs Obama's quote. I do believe that if that was indeed her "first time" being proud of America(my country) then I see no reason whatsoever for her husband to actually be running for president. Think about it folks.

I reminisce now to realize the first time that I was proud of MY country. It seems that the first time I was proud of my country was when my Mama's doctor slapped me on the rear end. I screamed out. Deeply embedded in that scream was a loud and ferocious(ask my Mama)"Yeah baby!!! I think I could live in this place!!!!" Ever since then I have seen the glorious and the not so glorious aspects of MY country. And never in all my years, and there have been a few, have I ever been ashamed of MY country. If you aren't proud of something aren't you ashamed of it? I recited, on many occasions, "The Pledge of Alegiance to the United States of America". I don't see Mr. , or even Mrs., Obama interested in changing that particular item. Yes, I am a firefighter. Yes, I am also serving in Iraq at this time. But I am neither one because of any shame I feel about living in The United States of America. I am both because I am proud to be an American and I want to give something back. Not that I can ever repay the priveledge of being an American, but I try constantly.

I must confess that I hadn't the eloquence to sing "God Bless America" while I watched 343 of my brethren perish on September 11, 2001. I was too confused. The confusion led to sadness and that sadness led to anger. And in anger I was more prone to expletives than song. And ,brevity being the soul of wit, I am going to close now and wish each and everyone reading this particular comment a good day. Thank you for your time.
