So, Forever 21 has never been my type of store, I prefer quality over quantity and relish building a wardrobe based on my personal style. A few night ago, I was sitting on the on the north bound redline and for the first time saw the bottom side of a Forever 21. in a bold yet small typeface I saw John 3:16 and I thought to myself, how strange I knew I needed to check this out. So with little investigation I found some (in my opinion) very conflicting information. I understand that the president of Forever 21 is a devote christian, something for which I do not fault him. But I do question his decision to place advertising of a bible verse on the bottom of his company's bags. If he feels so strongly, why not have it underneath the logo? Is he concerned that people would not shop at his store? I have spoken with several women who now won't, knowing what this company is so timidly trying to promote. How does Forever 21 really want to "get the message out"? Forever 21 defiantly does not seem to want to spread the word of God through good deeds and kindness. This very company operates on malice and greed. The 3 year court battle against Forever 21 for the garments workers in this very country, women paid unfair wages and working in unlawful conditions. Really? It took 3 years for Forever 21 to agree to pay garment workers a livable wage and not to work among cockroaches and mice. It this honestly the actions of a christian? Would Jesus want someone to work in unhealthy conditions for little money so that his message could be emblazened on the bottom of a bag? And what about the thing with thieves? Forever 21 is brazenly stealing designs from other designer; lawsuits filed by Diane Von Furstenberg, Gwen Stefani and Anna Sui. Stealing for their own profit. Shameful. It is obvious to me that Forever 21 is not interested in ethical actions, living a path that God so carefully and specifically carved out both on the old and new testament. Rather they seem to be interested in printing John 3:16 to some how "spread the word", it seems more like a shameless attempt to reconcile their very unchristian business practices for the almighty dollar. I prefer getting my great deals on the sale rack of more socially responsible retailers, and perhaps waiting to get that item that I just "have to" have.
