Clinton's Melancholy

Submitted by Bart, Feb 25, 2008 14:26

It was obvious from the start of WJ Clinton's mismanaged first term as President, that if the Republicans hadn't set a new course (for which Clinton and Democrats have eagerly taken credit) that the United States would have been waffling four years rather than two years between Clinton's flamboyant but hollow assertions of leadership and his embarassing displays of personal fecklessness. Bill Clinton's photographic memory persuaded even intelligent people that he was "bright". He is not. Hillary may be. However she has for so long hidden her light in her husband's shabby bushel there is only one hope--that she accept the fact that her awkward and possibly felonious manipulations, past and present, so well described in Mark Steyn's excellent article have no future. Perhaps if she had divorced her husband at any point and struck out on her own, she might have been able to escape the suction of his narcissism and self-destructive arrogance and emerged as an independent entity for whatever she might be worth. She might even have proved to be what many no longer imagine she is.
