It is interesting to me that Gustave Courbet inspired the young Mary Cassatt, as she, too, did not falsify beauty...She depicted people as she saw them--with their imperfections. To my eyes that is real beauty, although not necessarily pretty...
Cassatt also focused on the female, although with a maternal eye, I believe; whereas Courbet, as a man, would have focused on the sensuous appeal of the female.
I tend to agree with what I deem to be Ms. Taylor's premise--in that artists borrow from other artists, and other art forms--not necessarily "copying" or "plagiarizing" someone else's work...It is human to learn from one another, and that is how we evolve--indeed--in the arts and sciences, and all paths of life.
