What can one say but admiration for M. Sarkozy, the only Frenchman to really face up to the complicity of France in the destruction of its Jewish citizens. The horror of seeing French gendarmes gleefully rounding up little Jewish French children all over France will be a blot on France forever. M. Sarkozy at least has the courage to confront this part of French history. Now, if the rest of France could do likewise, that would be wonderful. But also, it would be courageous, and that is a quality sorely lacking in French society, now as then.
