Ms. McDevitt's comment underscores the way that those on the right and the left talk past each other on this issue. Her concern is for the "educational system". Those in favor of vouchers don't give a damn about the educational system. They have increasingly lost confidence in public education and believe that all socioeconomic classes should have access to a competing educational system that they do have confidence in. Most understand that widespread use of vouchers would cause quite an upheaval in the public school system in it's current form. The question is whether or not that's good for the kids, not whether or not that's good for the system.
