Clinton's Melancholy

Submitted by Gary, Feb 27, 2008 14:17

The decline of the Clintons conjures the vision of aging circus clowns, worn down by the road and 1000's of performances blurred together as the gypsy wagons creak from musty stadium to rain soaked outdoor show. The greasepaint no longer sparkles in the make-up lights and the characters that caused the masses to be entertained and bemused has lost its edge.

The tricks and physical jokes no longer ring laughter from the rafters, but barely bring a smile from the higher price ticket audience crowded towards the floor of the circus. Lost in the activity of acrobats swinging from the roof, dogs, ponies and the ever delightful march of the pachyderms, the clowns peddle their act obscurely in a corner of the excitement of the 3 ring extravaganza.

Still, the veteran troopers plod forward, grinding to a slow but inevitable stop. Then the coup de grace of waking one morning after an exhausted night's sleep to discover the circus has left town, leaving their battered and rotting wagon far behind, their predictable act neglectfully overlooked by the circus owner and ringmaster.

The show must go on! For the act of Willie and Hill, the final curtain dropped before their last bow.
