Mayor Defends Subsidy Plan For Baseball

I am surprised that the Sun would print "Mr. Bloomberg's support of the proposed subsidies represents a departure from his long-held stance that corporate subsidies are irresponsible public policy.".

Mr. Bloomberg's tenure can be arguably defined as nothing but corporate subsidies, obscene 20 year tax abatements or city bond subsidies for luxury residential development, as well as abusive broad stroke use of eminent domain. He is also on the record for defending corporate tax loopholes and as a corporate apologist.

That said, I can only take issue with the Sun's implication that a 20 million dollar public subsidy to major league baseball is a "departure" for Bloomberg from irresponsible public policy.

it's particularly amusing since Bloomberg spent most of first term obsessed with building a Giants Stadium and continues subsidizing, in every way, the planned Nets Stadium and new (smaller) Yankee Stadium. All while crying poverty as he cut services or raised taxes, fines, and fees on city residents.

I challenge the Sun to do a report on "Bloomberg's Legacy" citing any purely public works or infrastructure projects that Bloomberg has spearheaded in contrast to all the private projects he's supported. Name one that is actually successful, 100% public, and most of all - completed during his two terms (not scheduled 10-20 years from now). I will be the first to give credit if it's due.
