'Black' Is Back - But at a High Price

Submitted by Jonathan Butler, Feb 29, 2008 07:30

As a published writer and journalist myself--and as a single malt connoisseur--I was delighted to read Peter Hellman's article. There is a balance to both the prose style and the content which, in a completely appropriate metaphorical sense, is a fine dram indeed. Hellman addresses the obsessive and insane nature of single-malt lovers in a subtle manner, acknowledging the obvious lunacy of what people are willing to pay while observing also the rare and privileged nature of the single-malt experience. The Black Bowmore is indeed worth the price. I have one myself and a 1957 as well. I'd be happy to write about the single malt culture here in Taiwan if there is an interest in the fast-rising Asian obsession with fine single malts. I am a professor of English Literature at a local university. In any case, congrats to Peter on a fine article.
