Mets Bullpen a Cause for Concern

Submitted by David Crockett, Feb 29, 2008 08:55

I suppose we can go back to the Heath Bell and Brian Bannister deals as the root of the bullpen woes, but the market for major league caliber arms is not only thin but highly uncertain. Making deals for middle relievers is the height of "buyer beware." I'd still take our bullpen straight up over anyone else's in the division, perhaps save Washington's, but when you stack us up against some of the others around the NL it's definitely cause for concern.

Minaya's approach has typically been to collect a bunch of arms, throw them against the wall, and see what sticks. So I suspect the bullpen that leaves spring training won't be the same one we have now. I'm not sure what other approach Minaya can take.
