U.S. Opposing a Demarche Against Israel
in response to reader comment: what is proportionate?

Submitted by Scott Baker, Mar 4, 2008 10:21

As I've said in this space before - for whomever is reading here - I believe Israel should use disproportionate force. If Hamas takes out a block on Israeli territory, Israel should take out ten blocks of theirs. If they take out 10 blocks in Israel, together or cumulatively, Israel should take out a hundred blocks. More important than just balancing the scales however, is to destroy Hamas' ability to wage war. And let's not kid ourselves that this action is anything less. Oh, and as I"ve also said before, there are no innocents on the Hamas side. It's rare that violent terrorists actually get democratically elected, but that's the case here - thanks in part to the ham-handed democratic-or-bust policies of the U.S. So, the citizens of Hamastan are no more innocent than a New Yorker who helps elect a member of the Klan because he promise to cut taxes and pick up the garbage, and then when he gets in office he turns out to have racist policies as well. Even the little children are indoctrinated in anti-Israel from the earliest age, to the point where they really believe that launching missles into Israel when they grow up has no relation to Israel taking retaliatory steps. Sadly, there are no innocents in Hamastan. It is, and has always been up to the violent Jihadists to stop the war. They could stop it tomorrow by agreeing to a ceasefire. They could even build some sort of society by agreeing to Israel's right to exist. The fact that they don't shows they would rather die as matyrs.
