Physicians Will Seek To Prescribe to Albany

Submitted by Glenn Edwards, Mar 4, 2008 13:49

It is about time to get control of the malpractice situation in this state. The circumstances surrounding this issue is one of the key reasons we are losing our most talented physicians and discouraging our brightest young minds to enter medicine. The grip that the trial lawyers have on Albany is creating more liability by chasing away the best and brightest. It is their self forfilling prophecy. I truly believe it is in the tort lawyers best interest to overwork the remaining Dr.s' into mistakes. You might think this a bit cynical, but listen to a trial lawyer go after the health care provider and you will start to look at this industry (broken) as there great windfall. The few that have been harmed are causing the masses to suffer on long waiting lines, get rushed out of appointments, see Dr.s' that would not be their first choice and ultimately break what is left of a once fine medical delivery system. aPlease let common sense come back to NY and focus on the problems that can be fixed. Let Dr.s' become our friends again and not the target of attorney's.

P.S. My brother is a practitioner that recently gave up obstetrics after a 25 year career in Suffolk County. He has brought thousands of babies into the world greeted by loving parents. It is pathetic that this 50 year old Dr. can no longer practice what he loves to do. He is now considering a move out of state to one of the many states that have progressive tort reform and an environment welcoming Dr's and good care.
