At $100 a barrell, demand of excess of 80 billion barrells a day, and huge investments in non0conventional oil that requires almost as much energy going in as coming out, I wondered why this author would not only be a skeptic of peal oi theory but outright hostile and insulting. And then I read the short bio: Mr. Salam is an editor at the Atlantic and the co-author of "Grand New Party: How Republicans Can Win the Working Class and Save the American Dream."

Now it makes sense. The author is an ideologue and being a Republican he can't help but be small minded and hostile. That is the definintion of Republican, isn't it?
