Parking Plan Is Rebuffed by Teachers

Submitted by Ojaje, Mar 5, 2008 10:02

I feel this article is another political ploy to take away the little support we have from the public. Teaching is one of the most important and critical jobs that help to fostser our youth into being productive American citizens. We often have to deal with ill equppied students and parents, overwhelmed administrtators and our own personal issues. Would it be too much to allow us adequate parking? I received within 2 years at least $1800 in parking tickets for not being able to move my car due to street cleaning rules that aren't even enforced half the time. Furthermore why do we always have to give up a priviledge. Teachers in the past have always been given parking so I don't think things should change now. As for riding a bike to school, I did not go to 4 years of college and two years of graduate school to revert back to riding a damn bike like I an a high school student. I did the right thing as an American citizen and made myself a productive member of society. Not only did I choose a profession that never receives any gratitude or acknowledgement let alone respect and this is the thanks I get. Also as a mother I guess it would be apprporiate to get a triple seater and take my kids to school as well. This is the problem with our union. We must all have one voice and we should all say no to reduced parking whether you want to bike to work or take the train. Professionals deserve a choice. I thought we were New York's Brightest. What a joke? I think I may be going to the Island to teach. I guess there they see the importance of professionals having perks.
