Reawake Britain's Patriotism

It is indeed unfortuate that Daniel Johnson has to begin his very fine opinion piece with yet another silly attack on The Royal Family to which they cannot respond. If they are (and I say "if") dysfunctional so what? So are too many families throughout the world. Prince Harry evidenced that he is more articulate than many his age when he spoke at his mother's memorial and in interviews after he was "outed in Afganistan" by Matt Drudge. The Royal Family is devoted to their country and Prince Harry has done a commendable job by insisting that he actually serve in the military. He is to be complimented, not derided.

That being said, I could not agree more with Daniel Johnson's opinion about the Lisbon Treaty and the failure by the goverment of the United Kingdom to live up to its promises. If the treaty (nothing more than the old constitution in a new guise) were to be put up to a vote it would be defeated and this would not play well to the leftists in Brussels and Strasbourg. A president and foreign secretary of Europe are being imposed on the people of Europe and they are resisting. And they should resist. Who wants a system forced down one's throat? This is not democracy! This is not freedom! The Common Market worked! A European federal state will not! Denmark is not Portugal is not Greece is not Austria. There are certain elements needed to form a federal state and Europe is lacking in them. All they are is Europeans and that is not enough for a state. Should this treaty be adopted, the cooperation that has been established in Europe will collapse and be followed by... Those demanding a referendum in every country of the so-called European Union should take to the streets demanding a say in their futures. Gordon Brown made an historic error and history will not look well upon his decision to deny what was promised to the British people -- a voice in their future in Europe.
