It was definately stupid to not make it painfully clear that Kerry was talking about the president getting stuck in Iraq, but it is as obvious in retrospect as it was stupid at the time, that his intention was not to smear the servicemen and women in Iraq, but the president who led the country off to war under false pretenses.
Beyond just the simple fact that the president is stupid, you would have to buy into the idea of a professional political leader *purposely* deciding to call the troops in Iraq stupid.
Blowing the punchline to a joke is something that most, if not all politicians have done.
Deciding to call the soldiers fighting and dying 'stupid' is very likely not a move that a politician would make.
Unless you really are desperate to dump on Kerry and his crew, any logical person will understand that it was a botched punchline, and not an attempt to label the troops as stupid. Their commander-in-chief, sure, but not the troops themselves.
So is it that you're biased and looking to stir a fight, or are you not able to follow the logic of the situation?
