On the Rise, Israeli Art Hits Town

Submitted by Mike Darnell, Mar 9, 2008 06:34

As an Israeli artist living in Jerusalem and recently having some successes in the US I am not very surprised to learn that interest in Israeli art is on the rise.

As a gallery owner from Arkansas told me after I approached him regarding the possibility of displaying my exhibition "Digital Zion" in his gallery - "This is the buckle of the Bible belt - anything related to the stories of the bible, Zion, Jerusalem or Israel generates a huge interest here"

To learn more about "Digital Zion" see - http://www.digitalartprintgallery.com/digiart-blog/90.html

As for the final quote given by Ms. Roth in your article : " I think artists everywhere have their fingers on the pulse, the heartbeat of the nation. The concerns of the people come out in the art one way or the other."

Is it surprising that Israel - a nation that, for better or worse, gains extremely disproportional news coverage and Jerusalem - a city described as "the most venerated on the planet" are producing artwork that is interesting people on a global scale?
I hope not : )
