American Sports May Soon Face a Foreign Invasion

Submitted by Mark, Mar 10, 2008 01:35

Major League Soccer has several foreign owners. The owner of Chivas USA is the Antonio Cue, the owner of CD Guadalajara, commonly known as Chivas and the most popular club in Mexico. The clubs are run as sister organizations. Similarly, Red Bull purchased the MetroStars, renamed the club Red Bull New York and confusingly the club now plays as the New York Red Bulls. MLS has, with Toronto FC, at least three non-US owners. Now, you or Mark Cuban may not consider MLS to be major league but that's an argument for a different day. It's only fair to mention the most international league of all in any discussion of foreign inluence in North American sport.
