Not only are today's military personnel as smart as John Kerry, they are a lot smarter. I served three years in the army, then returned to college to complete my education. After earning a master's degree I returned to active duty, again in an enlisted status. I retired as a senior non-commissioned officer after twenty years. Why, with all my education, did I serve? Quite frankly, civilian life did not offer me the challenges and opportunities I could get in military service. I had a very good career and I served with some great people. I was not the only enlisted soldier with higher education. There were, and still are, many enlisted military personnel with bachelor's degrees and beyond. The highly technical and complex equipment that soldiers and other military personnel operate on a daily basis requires knowledge and education. On top of that, the military services offer opportunities to pursue higher education while on active duty. During my career I earned a number of hours toward the doctorate. John Kerry has made a cottage industry of trashing military personnel since 1971. He is the poster child of elitists who think they are smarter than the average bear. It's always all about him. He knows as much about being a member of a team as my dog does about nuclear fission. Yes, I know he served in Vietnam and got three Purple Hearts (two of which are questionable). That does not excuse his military-hating rhetoric. Any fool with enough money (somebody else's money, that is) can be a senator. Not everybody can be a soldier.
