What's In a Name?

Professor Sundiati is right in thinking that Obama would be no band-aid on America's foreign policy mistakes. He would probably be regarded as a murtadd in Muslim countries. Europe's Muslims, living as they do as proud minorities, would not welcome his repeated rejection of being called a Muslim as though it is something bad to be. Why doesn't he turn on those people who ACCUSE him of being a Muslim and berate THEM for their intolerance and lack of understanding of a great world religion! Professor Sundiati is probably right that Obama's liberalism would be popular in Europe, but I feel we would find Obama a bit pompous and longwinded – he doesn't seem to know any jokes! Europeans would find Hillary lots more fun. She is much wittier than he is and women rulers have almost become the norm in Europe anyway. Here's a list of some of Europe's recent and current women political leaders - Vigdis Finnbogadottir – former President of ICELAND Tarja Kaarina Halomen – current President of FINLAND Anneli Tuulikki Jaatteenmaki – former Prime Minister of FINLAND GRO HARLEM BRUNDTLAND – Prime Minister of NORWAY three times Vaira Vike-Freiberge – former President of LATVIA Kazimiere Danute Pruskiene – former Prime Minister of LITHUANIA Irena Degutiere – Prime Minister of LITHUANIA twice Hanna Suchocka – former Prime Minister of POLAND MARY ROBINSON – former President of IRELAND MARY McALEESE – current President of IRELAND Edith Cresson – former Prime Minister of FRANCE Segolene Royale – recent candidate for President of FRANCE MARGARET THATCHER – Prime Minister of UK for ten years Ruth Dreifuss – former President of SWITZERLAND Micheline Calmy-Rey – current President of SWITZERLAND ANGELA MERKEL – current Federal Chancellor of GERMANY Sabine Bergmann-Pohl – last Head of State of former EAST GERMANY Yuliya Tymoshenko – current and former Prime Minister of the UKRAINE Radmila Sekerinska – acting Prime Minister of MACEDONIA twice Renata Ludzhova – former Prime Minister of BULGARIA Nina Brodzhanadze – President of GEORGIA twice Milka Planinc – former Prime Minister of YUGOSLAVIA Tansu Gillen – Prime Minister of TURKEY Agatha Barbara – former President of MALTA Maria Lea Pedini-Angelini Gloriana Ranochini Edda Ceccoli Patricia Busignani Rosa Zafferani Maria Domenica Michelotti Valeria Ciavatta Fausta Simona Marganti Since 1981 the above women have all been President of SAN MARINO Add to these of course our European QUEENS: Margarethe II Queen of DENMARK Beatrix Queen of the NETHERLANDS (All three monarchs from 1890 have been women) Marie-Adelaide and Charlotte Grand Duchesses of LUXEMBOURG Elizabeth II Queen of the UNITED KINGDOM and NORTHERN IRELAND As you see it's no big deal to be the boss and be a woman in Europe – time to catch up with the times US of A!!!
