At Columbia, Students Attack Minuteman Founder

Submitted by Mrs Ceinwen Jackson, Dec 22, 2006 23:22

As an academic in the UK I was concerned at the behaviour of the students at this Columbia University event. I was watching it at home on television. The students were not prepared to allow these invited speakers to voice their opinions before shouting them down in a most uncivilised manner. What ever happened to free speech? Why havn't these students been taught to take part in debates conforming to the usual academic protocols for civilised debate and discussion. It was a case opf he who shouts the loudest gets his own way. Disappointing from what I had thought of as a leading university.
