Adam Kirsch is one of the best book- reviewes now writing. I have read quite a few of his truly outstanding reviews and learned much from them. Here however he does something I believe no good reviewer should do. He tells us repeatedly how bad and how lacking the book being reviewed is. He could have done this in a sentence. But in focusing on the lacks of the book he does not add to our knowledge, appreciation enjoyment and understanding of the life of Joseph Conrad. A better review would have brought in a great deal of information, and insight into the life of Conrad. .
