Although enrolled in the Democratic Party, I never voted for Eliot Spitzer either in primaries or in general elections even though the realistic alternatives were always a more or less right wing Republican. Spitzer struck me as a Democratic Leadership Council conservative ideologue supporting capital punishment and all US wars.
However, Spitzer should not be forced out of office in absence of proof that either New York State funds were used in his disgraceful personal escapades or that any of the prostitutes involved were placed on the government payroll as former President William Clinton did by providing the US Department of Defense with the "invaluable" services of Monica Lewinsky or before that the government of Arkansas with Jennifer Flowers and Paula Jones. If able to remain Governor, Spitzer might possibly govern with at least a little humility and, consequently, actually achieve some substantive improvements beneficial to the people.
