People Abandoning New York State, New Data Indicate

Submitted by Dan from Niagara, Dec 23, 2006 09:38

I graduated with a masters degre and moved to Niagara Falls from Syracuse for my current job. I have to say that after I make some money, I will be moving out. I was interested in settling down here and buying my first home, but after looking at some of the property taxes that I will have to pay, I decided against it. I am a little tired of working a lot of overtime to only see get taken completely out of my check. And since I have options, and I am not forced by circumstance to stay in this horrid state, why should I stay at all? For the Buffalo Bills?

(Not really connected to the obvious economic decline of this city and state) But what really convinced me that Niagara County was not interested in having new, young, college-educated people move in was when I went for my interview for my pistol permit. Apparently, since only two of my four references I have known for four years, I might not get it.

It would be nice if the state and county could pass a law reducing or eliminating taxes on income taken in the week if they exceed 45 or 50 hours. Not heavily taxing overtime would be a great boon for the economy. More money to spend, less taxes, more productivity becaues the people would keep the money they worked for... which is of course the reason why it will not fly.
