Handicapping Nets' Race for No. 8 Spot

Submitted by Gil Kunken, Mar 12, 2008 06:54

As a long time Nets fan who remembers Lavern "Jelly" Tart hoisting up 3 pointers from a Jersey Armory that even cabbies couldn't locate I'd rather see the Nets fail to latch on to the 8th spot. Rod Thorn makes good trades in the superstar category but the media is too kind to him in the draft where his misses equal his hits. (Remember the Nets drafter Kyle Korver in the second round and shipped him out immediately). Danny Granger drops out of the lottery and into his lap and he takes Antoine Wright? Forget Monta Ellis in the second round--everyone missed there. Even Hakim Warrick would have been a better pick than Wright. I'd prefer the Nets to be in the lottery with a shot at someone decent since this draft is not deep in over and above talent. What good is gettng into the playoffs to go out in straight sets in round one?
