Firstly, both men and women agree that the best life includes both love and family. Women are more self-disciplined when they find it and more tenacious in keeping it. I believe you overestimate (dramatically?) the number of guys who excuse Spitzer's conduct at all, let alone based upon the rationale you furnish. It may be the guy-friends I have, but very, very few evaluate Spitzer in the fashion you suggest. My friends tend to: a. condemn Spitzer's use of prostitutes, outright; b. include in that condemnation, the larger context of Spitzer's conduct toward others: a self-righteous bully who engaged the very conduct for which he destroyed others.
Secondly, the one notable instance of a political woman who steps outside the marriage for a relationship is, remarkably, Hillary.
