30-Year Sentence Sought in China Spy Case

Submitted by Anthony Knox, Mar 12, 2008 14:23

If his defense attorney's only defense is his clients' age, then perhaps the lawyer would care share his clients' sentence to lighten his burden? Mr. Mak and his family greatly jeopardized the security of the US and the armed forces through their treachery. Other countries execute traitors and sometimes execute their families as well. A 30 year sentence is appropriate and just for placing the lives of untold military persons at risk. Was he too old to commit the crime? No. Then he is not too old to suffer the punishment. We only know of the classified material he was caught transferring. What other data and material was transferred that we do not know about? If Mr. Mak is given a lighter sentence because of his age, what precedent are we sending? The older you are the more tolerant the US is on spies. Just send old spies to the US to get the job done. We won't punish them as hard.
